Paediatric osteopathy
What are the goals of osteopathic treatment for children?
Since the development process is far from complete with the birth of a child, children’s osteopathy supports the free development of the child’s life energy and individual potential with its specific techniques, it corrects blockages in structure and function and uses only the therapist’s hands.
The aim of paediatric osteopathy is the free mobility of all body structures.
How is a treatment carried out?
At the beginning of a pediatric osteopathic treatment, there is always a detailed anamnesis about the course of pregnancy and birth as well as the previous overall development of the child.
On the basis of detailed anatomical knowledge and an extremely precise, trained perception of his/her hands, the osteopath / pediatric osteopath empathizes with the nature of the various structures and tissues in the body and treats accordingly.
The hands of an osteopath are tactile and feeling hands. They do not press and push against the bone. They observe how the system works inside and how we can go with the movements to free restricted areas again.
Already from the first day of life, children can and should be treated osteopathically!
Some common problems for which osteopathy is recommended for children are:
- Breastfeeding problems, vomiting or spitting after breastfeeding
- Bending or throwing back the head, crooked neck, KISS syndrome
- Asymmetrical movement of the arms or legs
- Uncalmable screaming over a long period of time
- Otitis-Media (ear infections)
- Digestive problems, irritable bowel, constipation, nausea
- asthma, chronic tonsillitis, allergies,
- Susceptibility to infections, bronchitis, sinusitis
- Headaches, exhaustion, fears
- Back pain, scoliosis, body aches, growing pains
- Orthodontic problems, malocclusion
- Convulsive disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy
- Learning difficulties, behavioral problems, school anxiety, ADD, ADHD
- Traumatic injury
- Vaccinations
- Kiss syndrome
The occipital area is of utmost importance for the birth process as it guides the path of the child through the birth canal. At this point, three important cranial nerves leave the skull:
- the 9th cranial nerve (hypoglossal nerve) which is important for sucking and swallowing,
- the 10th cranial nerve (vagus nerve) which, among other things, supplies the stomach and has a digestive effect and
- the 11th cranial nerve (accesorius nerve) which supplies the neck and shoulder muscles and is important for head posture and rotation.
Consequently, if the occib is affected by pressure, the symptoms of the nervous system can vary greatly from child to child. From mild spitting to the child who is hyperactive or aggressive, suffers from attention deficit disorder, has learning problems, anxiety or other behavioral problems. In addition, many orthopedic, orthodontic, internal and ophthalmological difficulties can be triggered or contributed to by problems in this area.
